about

“It rises in the morning, giving light to the land below it. It sets in the evening, leaving the world in darkness. You know what we’re talking about: The Sun.” Up in the sky? Up in the sky! Winter is officially over as Otis Mensah & the intern bring back the rays of coziness with their first tune of 2024, “The Colour of Sunshine”. The AlternaRap aficionado with the Mellow Bars floats over the intern’s jazzy Lofi Beats like none other. Spilled Ink on the canvas of cool.

lyrics

Back in the church we used to sing and dance

"He's got the whole world in his hands"
"The wise man don't build on sand"
Before the burdens felt like kilograms
The hurdle look like Kilimanjaro
Leaping for dreams stuck in the ceiling fan
I ain't gotta be tough as a Brillo pad and it's still on brand
This world will make you wanna kill a man
And make it grand and say a sacred chant to money
Like a cunning cancer, death hunt in this honey-trap
So I ain't staking claims in no stolen land
And if you feel it, run it back
I chew the bullet, taint the gullet, gasp
And still struggle to do a 100-cap
What fun is that?
You've heard of the underbelly, I'm under that
With ill intent to pay the rent
That sullen sap we sup on fat
Soil and soot, they keep us full on that
And our necks they keep their foot on that
So I ain't handing out no pass
They keep me bending out my back
The colour of sunshine seeping out the seems and cracks
The creaking in my measly grasp
Of everything I'm supposed to stand for
Hell behind my beady eyes
mamma taught me Ecclesiastes
Watch me breaking out the mortar-cast
They used to call me "quarter-cast"
It haunt my Black
my thoughts are vast
I hoard emotions behind this broken latch
The same thing that caused the crash
I don't call it rap with no hymn attached
Simmer down and drink a glass
We've reached the brink alas
It all collapsed under simple facts
No brick unturned take kingdom back
Yeah and in my step a little blunder
Make my words a little thunder
Make you fumble in the covers yeah yeah
I keep some poems in my stutter
Keep me growing out my wonder
Dip your fingers in the sugar yeah yeah
And when this world won't let you sleep no more
Just hold on what your seeking for your soul out of that deep remorse yeah
And when this world won't let you sleep no more
Tell me what you think your dreams are for
Feel the world under your feet some more yeah
And when this world won't let you sleep no more
Some bedsores and floorboards yeah

I watched the colour of sunshine spill from your blossom skin
Bathing under this Sycamore
Come miss me more like Ross from Friends
And when this life descends
I will not cry for time
Spill the wine cut my losses then
Lets burn a sovereign ember
It will not come again no
We will not see December
so bless these scars
And let the show commence
Come near me like ASMR
To hear these poems of confessing with confetti
In this final string of sentences we're lost again and maybe we could succumb to some
Catastrophic end
Yeah, I'd like that
And as the sun burns let us burn too
Yeah
